GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under close supervision, the Planner Co-op Students will assist with the investigation and analysis of community planning issues to address future growth requirements, and supports statutory planning, subdivisions, and amendments. The incumbent will support the Branch and conduct research, responds to day-to-day inquiries, and provide customer service.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research and analyze the physical, economic, social, geographic, and technical factors that affect community and regional development.
- Assist staff in the preparation of planning documents and communications by conducting background research and document preparation.
- Conduct field investigations in conjunction with assigned planning duties under the direction and guidance of staff.
- Conduct studies related to land use and development issues and operational processes.
- Assist with collecting and compiling background research for statutory plans, land use bylaw and property file review.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clarify and convey information in a clear and concise manner.
- Respond to difficult situations in a professional manner.
- Work collaboratively and productively with co-workers, and actively contributes to team activities.
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, or visualization software is preferred.
- Proficient with various Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Pursuing a Degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Architecture, or a related degree program.
- Students must be registered in a Co-op Program to be eligible for employment.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check for review and acceptance.
