GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

Under close supervision, perform manual labourer duties and clean and maintain all assigned areas related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of transit bus shelters and bus stops, as well as perform special bus cleans. Remain flexible to respond to the immediate needs of area to increase overall effectiveness of operations.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Maintain assigned areas using various small hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Load, unload and deliver material and supplies.
  • Perform clean up and maintenance duties to bus shelters and bus stops, in all weather conditions. This includes collecting and disposal of refuse, cleaning of bus shelter windows, sweeping of shelter floors, painting of bus benches.
  • Shovelling of snow in bus shelter and bus stop areas.
  • Assist with inspections if required by assigned area.
  • Loads and unloads materials from trucks.
  • Assists with erecting and removal of transit signs.
  • Assists tradespeople in the repair, maintenance and construction of bus shelters and bus stops.
  • Ability to work shifts and weekends.
  • Perform special bus cleans.
  • Perform all other related duties as required.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Must communicate effectively and understand instruction and safety procedures.
  • Must be able to demonstrate dependability and reliability.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labour for extended durations of time in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Previous labourer experience would be an asset.

 

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Submission of a Criminal Record Check.
  • A valid Class Five (5) Operator’s License is required as incumbent will be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis. A safe driving record (no more than 2 demerit points); any infractions will be reviewed.
  • Must be willing to work outside in all conditions.
  • Immunizations are strongly recommended for work in unsanitary conditions.
  • Must be medically and physically able to perform all duties of the position on an ongoing basis.
