GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

Under limited supervision, the Landscape Project Coordinator manages and administers capital and operational projects such as open space developments, landscaping, and upgrading or maintenance of existing structures. The incumbent provides technical details and advice for proposals, plans, designs, and standards. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Manage assigned projects from concept to final delivery. 
  • Prepare and review project related documentation, technical reports and specifications, as well as provide recommendations for construction/maintenance and project cost estimates.
  • Perform field/site inspections to ensure compliance and report status when necessary.
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate bids, and make recommendations for award of contract for parks and recreation projects. 
  • Support community engagement sessions to gather information from stakeholders to and the general public to help determine project scope and details.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance regarding projects, proposals, standards for parks and open space development, and landscaping.
  • Direct consultants and contractors to ensure cost, quantity, and quality control.
  • In partnership with various stakeholders, deliver Municipal projects to meet the needs of community groups and municipal operations staff.
  • Provide drafting and design services by AutoCAD, computerized programs, and free hand sketches.
  • Research and review internal procedures and policies and provide recommendations.
  • Inspect projects or developments for deficiencies, review and analyze test results, enforce rectification of deficiencies, and recommend for approval construction completion and final acceptance certificates.
  • Assist in the overview of construction projects during the warranty/maintenance period to ensure that design/construction deficiencies are corrected as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Proficiency with computer aided drafting and design programs (AutoCAD), as well as various Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Above average written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand and execute verbal and written, instructions. 
  • Demonstrates strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience in solving complex and sensitive issues. 
  • Ability to maintain composure and diplomacy in a demanding work environment. 
  • Ability to achieve self-set goals and targets with independent initiative, demonstrating responsibility, reliability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering/ landscaping plans, drawing and specifications.
  • Ability to acquire a sound working knowledge of pertinent municipal bylaws and standards.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

 

  • Diploma in a related field such as Landscape Architectural Technology, Engineering Construction, or Environmental Sciences is required. 
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible project management experience is required. This experience must include preparation of project related documentation and technical reports, contract administration, and comprehensive use of computer-aided drafting systems and other computer applications.
  • Additional experience working with consultants and contractors, as well as training in project management, public engagement, financial management, or leadership is an asset. 


OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

 

  • Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check for review and acceptance.
  • A valid Class five (5) Operator’s Licence is required as incumbent will be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis. 
  • Must be willing to work outside in all conditions.
