GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, the Recycling Operator will safely and competently operate and maintain assigned equipment, provide assistance, and perform labour tasks in relation to recycling operations within the Material Recycling Facility (MRF), public drop-off area, recycling depots, and transfer stations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operate various equipment, primarily rubber-tired loader, skid steer, roll-off truck, baler, conveyor, and tele-handler.

Perform cleaning and maintenance of equipment, facilities, and work areas as required; including, but not limited to, picking up litter and debris and snow removal.

Provide customer service , when required, by responding to enquiries in a curteous and effective manner and assist with various recycling events through the region.

Perform flagging, material preparation, spotting, and other related activities in support of equipment operations.

Adhere to provincial and federal regulations.

Maintain daily operation equipment log detailing condition of equipment, perform minor servicing, and report maintenance and operational problems to foreman or supervisor.
- Complete daily pre and post trip inspections, paperwork, and safety reports as required.
- Report public and commercial waste haulers infractions that violate regulations and take action to correct deficiencies as outlined within established policies and procedures.
- Complete training on equipment and participate in the RMWB training program as required by operations.
- Respond to emergency issues and complete required process and activities as outlined within the emergency response plan.

QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment under varying conditions, while maintaining attention to detail and observational skills.
- High degree of attention to detail with ability to detect minor defects in equipment used.
- Demenstrate knowlegde of occupational hazards, waste symbols, signage, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and applicable safety precautions as per municipal and industry standards.
- Knowledge of all applicable bylaws, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to solid waste disposal practices for landfills and transfer stations.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with a diverse range of people, using judgement, tact, and sound decision-making skills, sometimes in conflict situations.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply equipment manuals, diagrams, operating procedures, and work plans.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal, written instructions, keep simple records, communicate respectfully with co-workers and work effectively in a team environment.
- Positive attitude and desire to provide exceptional customer service.
- General math, numeracy, and reading skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Two (2) years of experience in the operation of rubber-tired loaders, skid steers, and roll off trucks is required.
- Experience with recycling operations equipment such as balers and conveyors is an asset.

A valid Class three (3) Operator’s License is required.

Q endorsement is required.

Clean driver’s abstract is considered an asset.

Equipment field testing and/or competency testing will be required as part of the interview evaluation.

Must be willing to work outside in all conditions.

Immunizations are strongly recommended for work in unsanitary conditions.

Must be medically and physically able to perform job.

Ability to work rotating shifts that includes holidays, evening/night shift, and weekends.
