GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, the Rural Community Programmer is responsible for the delivery of programs, activities, and events to citizens to promote active living, wellness, recreation, culture, arts and a sense of community within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s rural communities. Areas of focus include children’s programs, family activities, special events, pilot projects, open houses, recreation/cultural and arts opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Within established budget, plan, and implement events and programs for community members.
- Prepare and distribute advertising and promotional information for events and programs.
- Open and close community facilities as required.
- Coordinate facility equipment set up and take down (tables/chairs/signage/etc.) and support activities both inside and outside the municipal community facilities.
- Ensure patrons are aware of and following facility policies.
- Complete assigned administrative tasks including, but not limited to data entry, filing and program reports.
- Assist members of the public and provide excellent customer service.
- Ensure that municipal safety policies and procedures are in place and complete safety paperwork as required to ensure the safety of self and others.
- Ensure recreation, culture, and municipal information is readily available.
- Assist with other municipal community functions.
- Maintain cleanliness and supplies within community facility during working hours.
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to execute programs and events by leading the planning, prioritizing, and administrative process.
- Ability to work independently and to effectively schedule duties and tasks in order to meet service demands.
- Positive attitude and desire to provide exceptional customer service.
- Knowledge and proficiency in the applicable occupational health and safety regulations, and the ability to implement safe programs and events for the community.
- Ability to deal courteously, tactfully, and effectively with a diverse range of people, sometimes in conflict situations.
- Must exercise confidentiality and discretion with client information.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- One (1) year directly related work experience in community recreation is required.
- Ability to speak Cree or Dene, and Indigenous culture training are considered assets.
- Valid Standard First Aid Certification.
- Due to the work location, preference will be given to local rural candidates.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
- A valid Class Five (5) Operator’s Licence is required as incumbent will be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis.
- Must be medically and physically able to perform all duties of the position on an ongoing basis.
