GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

These Seasonal Student positions will provide clerical support in the Professional Services Branch of the Regional Emergency Services Department. The students will assist with various administrative and customer service activities in the assigned area from May 2026 to August 2026 and will attend public education and various events in the community. They will work with the FireSmart team and assist with the FireSmart Begins at Home – Home Assessment Program. These positions are within the CUPE 1505 Bargaining Unit and are located in the community of Fort McMurray, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s urban centre.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Implement, create, and maintain documents such as invoices, files, expenses, notifications, spreadsheets, statistical reports, presentations, and other related documentation.
  • Provide reception and customer service duties, including responding to telephone enquiries. Primary contact for the public; responsible for issuing files, pamphlets and keeping others informed.
  • Collect, compile and assemble reports and statistical information for distribution internally and externally. Develop and maintain filing systems.
  • May be required to prepare agendas, record minutes of meetings, and distribute to the appropriate staff. Accurately process labour, material, equipment and service order information expediently into a computerized system.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Proven ability to take accurate notes and minutes.
  • Ability to work independently and accomplish multiple tasks with deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to changing practices and work demands.
  • Must have proven interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in various computer programs (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Must be willing to work outside in all conditions.
  • Must be medically and physically able to perform the job on an ongoing basis.

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of one (1) year of post-secondary education is required.
  • Candidates must be returning to full-time post-secondary studies for the Fall 2026 semester to be eligible for this position.
  • Preference will be given to students enrolled in post-secondary Office or Business Administration programs that have an interest in FireSmart, Environmental Science, Forestry and Fire Prevention.

 

Candidates who are successful during the interview process will be required to provide the following documents:

  • Proof of full-time post-secondary enrollment for the Winter 2026 and Fall 2026 semesters.
  • A copy of a High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
  • A copy of a valid Class Five (5) *Driver’s Licence (non-GDL) and a Driver’s Abstract. *Note: GDL will not be accepted. Proof of licence and a Driver’s Abstract (issued within 30 days) will be required from candidates.
