GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


The Supervisor, Facility Operations is responsible for reviewing space planning requests, developing innovative workspace design, managing building security, overseeing building renovations & repairs, managing utilities and costs in vertical assets, and directing staff on their day-to-day duties. Primary responsibilities of this position include:

 

Facilities Operations: Assists in overall building and facility management. This includes renovation and project design and management. Responsible for Utility and Infrastructure Security management, including requests for new services, and changes to existing services while seeking operational efficiencies. Developing and adhering to budgets for daily operations, projects and other tasks as assigned. Daily oversite of all Facilities related contracted operational services.    

 

Space Planning Guidance: Assists with overall program service delivery. This will include direct involvement in daily operations, budgeting, business plans, and staff leadership. Assists with the development and implementation of effective parking, office space design, planning tools, administrative directives, and guidelines. 

 

Employee Direction: Performs supervisory tasks for assigned team members. Works with team to plan and balance workload. Ensures team is managed fairly and consistently and that work processes are followed and coordinated to ensure service levels. Mentors, coaches, and provides support to staff with regards to innovative space planning practices ensuring alignment with LEED and BOMA best practices, local bylaws, and Alberta Building Code.
Cooperation with internal and external clients: Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with strategic partners to develop and actively participate in joint initiatives. Acts as primary organizational contact for vendors, contractors, and lessees. Takes a lead role in managing facility operation’s needs, overseeing utilities, security, developing design concepts, space standards/layouts, space needs assessments, managing non-process facility planning, vendor service agreements, and other contracts and projects

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

 

Candidates need to show evidence of the following: 

  • Ability to empower people, strong organizational skills, and use of innovative approaches.
  • Strong team player with a collaborative style and facilitation skills. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Project.
  • Leadership and project management skills.
  • Effective communication, presentation, interpersonal, & analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to create architectural packages for construction.
  • Ability to read and evaluate planning documents and specifications.

 

 

EDUCATION: 

 

  • University Degree in Business, Architecture, Interior Design, or related discipline is required. 
  • Knowledge of BOMA and LEED Principles is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

 


EXPERIENCE: 

 

  • Seven (7) years’ progressive facilities management and space planning or interior design experience; including two (2) years’ supervisory experience. 
  • Experience working in a public sector environment with unionized and non-unionized employees is considered an asset.

 


OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

 

  • A valid Class five (5) Operator’s Licence is required as incumbent will be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis. 
  • Submission of a Criminal Record Check.
  • Ability to respond with limited notice.
  • Ability to travel inside and outside of the region when required.
  • Ability to work outside of regular business hours including council meetings, public engagements and board meetings.
