GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under minimal supervision, the Supervisor, Financial Reporting provides direct daily oversight to a team of finance professionals in the delivery of financial reporting and analysis services related to the Municipality’s corporate accounting processes and financial statement preparation. This includes providing accurate, timely, and meaningful financial services and supporting the Manager, Financial Planning and the Controller in the preparation of the Municipality’s quarterly and annual financial statements.

Primary responsibilities of this position include:
Employee Development: Performs supervisory tasks for assigned team members. Works with team to plan and balance workload, ensuring that staff members are managed fairly and consistently and that work processes are followed. Provides direction on task prioritization, and leads staff in the delivery of technical advice, recommendations, and decision support. Mentors, coaches, and provides support to staff. Empowers and develops staff by way of regular feedback, providing development opportunities and technical direction, as well as delegation of responsibilities.
Research and Implementation: Participates in continuous research, development, improvement, and implementation of effective departmental strategies, tools, and guidelines based on applicable legislation, policy, industry standards, and best practices. Ensures compliance with the Municipal Government Act and the Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS). Analyzes the effectiveness of departmental programs and makes suggestions for further improvement. Provides input into department business plans, initiatives, and budget to ensure continuous achievement of department goals.
Departmental Guidance: Reviews and approves divisional monthly journal entries and ensures prompt and timely general ledger reconciliations. Responsible for overseeing the Municipality’s corporate analysis and reporting (i.e. contingencies and reserves). Coordinates the branch’s work to ensure timely delivery of accurate financial statements (annual and quarterly). Reviews all working papers to ensure there is standard and accurate backup for these financial statements. Works in collaboration with the audit team to ensure that the annual and interim audit process is smooth from all parties’ perspectives.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both technical and user-friendly language, including instructional, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Adherence to administrative directives, policy, and legal requirements.
- Ability to interpret complex policies, legislation, standards, and the Municipal Government Act.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and SAP finance modules, with extensive use of spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines.
EDUCATION:
- Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
- Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) Designation is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Five (5) years of related accounting experience with a minimum of two (2) years of related supervisory/ leadership experience is required.
- Previous experience in a municipal financial services environment is an asset.
- Experience working in a public sector environment with unionized and non-unionized employees is an asset.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check for review and acceptance.

This position is employed in a supervisory capacity. As such the employee is required to obtain additional safety training in accordance with municipal procedures and directives.
